Urban sustainability is one of the primary challenges facing modern cities, with their ability to address environmental, social, and economic issues hinging on the development of a balanced urban economy. The urban economy contributes significantly to improving quality of life, creating jobs, and enhancing infrastructure, thereby increasing a city&#8217;s resilience to crises. The study analyzes key challenges in Benghazi, including inadequate infrastructure, unregulated urban expansion, and limited economic investments. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, it draws on data from economic reports and expert interviews to evaluate the economic factors influencing the city&#8217;s sustainability. Findings emphasize the urban economy&#8217;s pivotal role in supporting sustainable development while identifying critical obstacles such as weak infrastructure, insufficient investments, uncontrolled urban sprawl, and political instability.
